Century Club Executive Head Chef
As you may or may not be aware, before reopening we had the delight of welcoming Chef Matteo Maritati to the helm of the Century Club kitchen team. It brings us great joy and excitement to formally introduce him to you now.
Matteo joins us from the Gordon Ramsey Group, hailing most recently from Heddon Street Kitchen. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge, experience and an inherent love for all things culinary. He is really looking forward to meeting all of our members and will be mingling in the club regularly in order to meet you personally.
“I was born in the south of Italy, where I spent most of my childhood in the kitchen. My mum showed me how to prepare and cook meals, led by a great passion and love for cooking, she taught me how to create my own dishes, dispensing cooking tips and encouraging me to learn secret ingredients for traditional Italian recipes.
Aged 14, I had my first job in a restaurant run by my relatives, for whom I helped make the cold starters. Inspired by my time here, I then decided to go to culinary school to progress in the field, and to further develop the skills and knowledge taught by my mum. I moved to London at the young age of 22, where I started to work for a traditional Italian restaurant in Teddington. Just a year later I joined the Gordon Ramsay Group as Demi chef in the newly opened Bread Street Kitchen.
During my time with the group, I worked within several different restaurants, including Heddon Street Kitchen and Union Street Café. It was here where I learnt various techniques across many different cultures and cuisines. Eventually, I returned to Heddon Street Kitchen where I was offered a promotion to Head Chef.
My passion for hospitality has helped me to deliver consistent, high-quality dishes, and enabled me to pass on my knowledge to my colleagues. I love teaching my staff, and inspiring in them the same love and passion I have for cooking.”
